Why does a stairlift swivel at the top of the stairs?

❓❓❓ Your Stairlift FAQs answered ❓❓❓
Today’s question:
“Why does a Stairlift turn and lock at the top of the staircase?”
Answer:
It’s a safety feature. Standard on all stairlift models and supplied in compliance with current Safety Directives.
As ably demonstrated in the below photos of the “Modul Air” made by Koninklijke Otolift Trapliften, in most cases your Stairlift will stop level with the top step of your staircase.
The seat then turns 85° and locks into postion so you have a safe and secure barrier behind you as you exit the stairlift onto your Landing.
Whether a manual or powered version, this simple yet effective swivelling mechanism is an integral part of any modern-day stairlift.
